Review: How to Walk Like a Man by Eli Easton

How to Walk Like a Man
(Howl at the Moon #2)
by Eli Easton
Release Date: November 13, 2015
Genre: Paranormal, M/M Romance

Deputy Roman Charsguard survived Afghanistan where he lost his best friend—his K-9 handler James. Roman was a military dog until two years ago when he developed the ability to shift into a human. It’s not easy to learn how to be a man. He found a place to live in Mad Creek, a haven for the secret world of dog shifters. Finding a reason to live has been harder. That is, until a certain human walks into the Mad Creek Sheriff’s office and starts making trouble.

Matt Barclay has the worst luck. First he was shot in a SWAT drug raid, then he was sent as DEA investigator to Mad Creek, a little town in the California mountains. Matt’s job is to keep a lookout for illegal drug farms, but nobody in the town wants him there. And then there’s Roman, Matt’s erstwhile baby-sitter. He’s the hottest guy Matt’s ever seen, even if he is a bit peculiar. If the town doesn’t kill him, sexual frustration just might.

The town is counting on Roman to prevent Matt from learning about dog shifters, Matt’s counting on Roman to be his work partner and tell him the truth, and Roman’s trying to navigate love, sex, and a whole lot of messy human emotions. Who knew it was so complicated to walk like a man?

I'm growing to love this crazy and weird Mad Creek town. I just can imagine how crazy everyone is from the perspective of Matt, the new DEA agent situated at the Sheriff office. Being a trained agent, Matt is much more perceptive than the previous human hero, Tim. But he still can't wrap his mind around the creepy behavior of the town people.

Roman the ex-K9 dog is such a dear. He had just been human for two short years. He is still very naive and innocent when it comes to normal human behavior, especially anything sexual. When he keep asking hardass Sheriff Lance about sex, it was priceless! I can't stop picturing Lance trying to explain sex to Roman with a straight face.

Roman was assigned to shadow Matt in order to prevent the outsider from learning the town secret and during their time spending together hiking the woods and scouting for illegal weed growing, they start growing close. Seeing Roman trying to understand his new feelings to Matt was such an endearing moment. But with Roman keeping such a big part of himself from Matt, will they have a shot at happiness?

I love that Lance and Tim and the meddling mother is still featured prominently in the story. I guess you need to have read Book 1 to be able to appreciate all their dynamics together. I thought Book 1 was a bit fluffy, but this book 2 seems to step up a notch and include some really solid investigative work and some action towards the end when they take down the bad guys. Overall, a great follow up for this m/m shifter series that I grow to adore.
