Blog Tour ARC Review + Giveaway: Broken by Nicola Haken

by Nicola Haken
Genre: M/M Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 29, 2016

When Theodore Davenport decides to switch his mundane job for a career, he walks into Holden House Publishing with enthusiasm and determination to succeed. As he settles into his new role, makes new friends, and dreams of making it to the top, everything is going to plan.

Until he meets James Holden, CEO of Holden House.

James Holden hasn’t been able to stop thinking about his encounter with the timid man he met in a club bathroom last week, and when he discovers the one haunting his dreams is an employee, he can’t seem to stop himself from pursuing him.

Just a little fun - that’s what James tells himself. He can’t afford to care for someone who can never reciprocate, not once they find out who he really is. James believes nobody deserves the burden of being attached to him. He’s a complicated man. Damaged. Difficult. Demanding.

Is Theodore strong enough to confront James’ demons? More importantly, is James?

(M/M romance. Not suitable for readers under 18 years of age due to language and sexual content. ***Please note*** This book contains scenes of self harm, mental illness and suicidal ideation which may pose as a trigger, or be uncomfortable for some readers.)

4.5 stars

Broken is the second M/M about mental health issue that I've read this year. Although is not as dark and heavy as the one I prior, is still a page turner for me. I like the humor in the story, the gay/lesbian friendship being depicted and of course, the complicated man, James Holden

Theodore, the man with a fascination towards David Gandy and self-proclaimed not-a-slut had a one night stand in a club's bathroom with a mysterious man in suit, only to find out that said man is his new boss ofHolden's House. Okay, the company name sounds like a sex club, but is actually a publishing company.

James Holden is the new CEO of Holden's after his father's passing. To others, he is the uptight, arrogant, cocky and verbally abusive boss who screw everyone, literally. No one knows that he was hiding his illness with his emotional distance.

Theo was not happy to learn that he was among the long strings of James one night stand and he is adamant to keep his distance from the enigmatic man. But James tenacious to engage him is wearing him down and before long Theo find himself in the constant company of James.

I love it when the book makes me laugh at inappropriate moment. I don't care whether is morally right or wrong because Theo's lesbian bff, Tess is a riot and not everyone can accept her brand of craziness.

"She thinks this new guy she's seeing is supplying her oxygen through his dick."

Theo and James, these two guys are just too cute for words. They bicker, they pissed each other off and they love each other selflessly. For the first time, James experience what is love and contemplate a future that isn't fill with loneliness. But is he being too selfish and unfair to Theo?

Theodore makes me feel again and... and I like it. I like the flickers of hope in my chest when he smiles, the bubbles of excitement in my stomach when he laughs, even the guilt I feel when I piss him off. The're emotions I haven't felt in such a long time and I crave more of them, crave him, crave life.

When is time for James to come clean to Theo, will their relationship survive it? How did one even comprehend the seriousness of James' issue? Although this not entirely a heavy read, the author did not make light of the situation and spend enough quality time to map out James struggle and the impact it cause on their relationship. My favorite part will always be the healing process, it gives me so much hope and often filled with so much love.

"We're going to be okay, James. You're going to be okay. We'll take it one breath, one moment... One kiss at a time."
