Review: One to Hold ( One to Hold ) by Tia Louise

One to Hold by Tia Louise

Derek Alexander is a retired Marine, ex-cop, and the top investigator in his field. Melissa Jones is a small-town girl trying to escape her troubled past.

When the two intersect in a bar in Arizona, their sexual chemistry is off the charts. But what is revealed during their "one week stand" only complicates matters.

Because she'll do everything in her power to get away from the past, but he'll do everything he can to hold her.

This one is a tad too short and underdeveloped. The characters background was ambiguous and the whole ex-military angle of the hero was not played to his full potential. What's the point of mentioning he had a badass career?

Melissa suffered a bad marriage and on the verge of divorce when she decided to take a week long vacation with her bff, Elaine. There she met Derek and they had a wonderful whirlwind fling during the week. When the vacation ended, both of them wanted more, but Melissa was unable to commit due to her fiasco back home.

We met her psychotic soon-to-be ex-husband, and then we have a surprised revelation in regards to Derek's role. But everything was solved a tad too quickly by the end. And when Melissa reunited with Derek again it seems such a swift HEA.

I like the premise of the story, but things progress just too quickly. I felt like I read a summarize version of the story. The motivation behind Derek was also ambiguous, although he did explained it in a nutshell. So, in a nutshell, this one was enjoyable quick read, but the characters and plot was not well-developed.

Nonetheless, I will continue with this series to read more on these two characters because I want to know more about them. I can't wait for Derek to show me his dark side.
