Review: Caressed by Ice ( Psy-Changeling #3 ) by Nalini Singh

Caressed by Ice

Nalini Singh explores new heights of sensuality, returning to the world of the Psy - where two people who know evil intimately must unlock the good within their icy hearts...

As an Arrow, an elite soldier in the Psy Council ranks, Judd Lauren was forced to do terrible things in the name of his people. Now he is a defector, and his dark abilities have made him the most deadly of assassins - cold, pitiless, unfeeling. Until he meets Brenna...

Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent before she was abducted - and had her mind violated - by a serial killer. Her sense of evil runs so deep, she fears she could become a killer herself. Then the first dead body is found, victim of a familiar madness. Judd is her only hope, yet her sensual changeling side rebels against the inhuman chill of his personality, even as desire explodes between them. Shocking and raw, their passion is a danger that threatens not only their hearts, but their very lives...

I have a thing for stoic hero, so Judd Lauren is totally the type that I love reading about. He is known as the Man of Ice, used to be the assassin for the Psy, but now he and his family are seeking sanctuary within the SnowDancer Pack.

Brenna was the victim that was abducted and brutalize by a psychopathic Psy in the previous book. Despite the trauma, she is a survivor and couldn't stand being cuddle by her two overprotective brother. Through the healing, she grew close to Judd and never shy away from showing him that she wants him.

But Judd bring stoic to a whole new level and his emotion was constantly keep in check by the Silence that torment him whenever he starts to show defect. He totally ignore all her advances, but the woman slowly did manage to thaw him out. Throughout the whole journey, I was anticipating Judd to finally break his iron control and see what is the aftermath of that. Love seeing the trash bedroom and all that.

The politics behind the Psy-Changeling is complicated. This is definitely not the kind of book that can work as a standalone in the series. While, Book 1 and 2 have too much similarities in term of the romance, Caressed by Ice gives me something new.
