Review: Facade ( Games #2 ) by Nyrae Dawn

Facade by Nyrae Dawn

Can love save them?

After her father commits a crime that shatters her family, eighteen-year-old Delaney Cross is tired of pretending everything is all right. Packing up her car, she sets out to find the people her father hurt. Her search leads her to places she’s never been—and into the arms of Adrian Westfall.

To the outside world, Adrian is a sexy, charming ladies’ man. But his playboy persona is just an act. Secretly his soul is tortured by a memory too painful to share. Only Delaney seems to see through his fa├žade to the real man underneath. And for the first time in his life, Adrian feels he can begin to open up about his past.

Together, Adrian and Delaney share a passionate love they never expected to find. Yet both still harbor their own secrets. When the dark truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together—or tear them apart forever?

I like the beginning, love the ending, but the middle part was a tad draggy.

It was a no-brainer for me to pick up this one because I love Charade so much. However, Facade came lacking in the pacing of the story. I like the first 20% and love the last 20%. But somewhere in the middle, I felt the plot drag on without much development to keep me engaged.

We met Adrian, the hardcore party guy, who was Colt's best buddy from Book 1. You won't be missing much if you read this one as a standalone, but this contain some spoiler from previous book. On the surface, Adrian was carefree, enjoying his endless parties and smoked like chimney, but we learned that he was harboring some severe guilt in regards to his family tragedy. He'd left his family behind, running away from guilt and seeking solace in his parties/weeds.

One look at me shows I'm stoned half the time. Weed? It clouds out the past. Parties drown out the stuff in my head I don't want to hear.

Our heroine Delaney was new in town. Her past was interlink with Adrian due to the same tragedy that not only wreck Adrian's family, but hers as well. She was now living with her brother, Maddox, but unlike her brother who was giving up life in general, Delaney was a fixer and she wanted to make things better. She decided to seek Adrian out to gave both family some peace.

When Delaney finally came face to face with Adrian, she was at lost on how came clean to him. He was attracted to her and looking for some good time, but he had no idea who she really was. And the last thing she need was to be attracted to the guy who was obviously a player. But she vowed to understand the complicated man behind his playful facade.

Adrian was living in so much guilt that he constantly in grief, while Delaney was facing some heavy family problem and struggling to come clean to Adrian. These two were basically tip toeing around this issue from the get go and it just kept being dragged on. I'm dying for something actually happen beside reading of their inner turmoil. I had been waiting Delaney to confess from the beginning.

Why are we playing this back-and-forth game while I'm wearing this facade he knows nothing about?

Yeah, tell me why Delaney.

I need to tell him. The words are there in my mouth and on my tongue all the time, but I can't make myself push them out because I'm scared of losing him and scared of hurting him when all I want is for him to be okay.

Here we go again, the same dilemma over and over. Just tell him already!

"Haunt me,
my little ghost,
Possess me.
Live inside me,
And scare away my sins
Until there's nothing left.
But you."

Can't deny that Adrian can write on hell of a love poem. He's a writer, a poet, a man living in a facade, awaiting a relief from his guilt. And there's where Delaney came in. I can't denied they had a special connection. But romance wise, I don't see much action from Adrian that turn me mushy like Colt did. I also don't like the fact that Adrian make a nickname for Delaney. To me, two words nickname was something special to Colt and Cheyenne.

"You helped me stop bleeding. You made my heart beat when I thought it was gone. You reminded me what if feels like to love again."

After the truth finally came out, things got interesting. I was shocked by this awful twist. As if Adrian's past was not terrible enough, Nyrae Dawn gave us another sucker punch to the gut. WTH! It was a very emotional ending and I wonder how will Adrian recover from all that and accept Delaney. I'm glad things work out in the end, of course it did!

Next one will feature Delaney's brother, Maddox.
