Review: This Side of the Grave ( Night Huntress #5 ) by Jeaniene Frost

This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance . . .
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous "ally"; the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war . . . to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

Urban Fantasy

This book should be read after Spade and Mencheres's spin off books or you will be left wondering how come Denise became non-human and who is this Mencheres's lady love who was so protective of him. Don't miss out their books.

I still remember the angst we experience from Destined for an Early Grave and many fans were not cool about it. But let me assure you This Side of the Grave had non of those frustrating problem at all. The humor and romance typical of Cat and Bones was back with a vengeance. I love seeing how far they had come in their relationship and for once Cat had finally showed us she had grown up, a lot. She no longer annoy me with her impulsive behavior or disregard for Bones feelings anymore. Is good to see them working together instead of going behind each other back.

"Ask me if I sparkle and I'll kill you where you stand."

Its been five books and with Cat and Bones happily married yet I find the series as fun and exciting as ever. The romance is still the focus of the story, which I love. Jeaniene really do get creative on the sex scene. Candle, wax and fangs, anyone?

Vlad and Mecheres were featured prominently and I love seeing their little fang family coming together and work along plotting some mayhem. I'm going all fangirling when I saw Mencheres and Kira. Love these lovely couple. By the way, Eternal Kiss of Darkness is a must read!

"Premature inflammation. Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing, I don't like to talk about it."

This time is a ghoul name Apolyon that was plotting some undead domination and want to ignite war with the vampires. Cat is once again being targeted and she needs to let people know that is not some kind of psychopathic weirdo that is out to rule the world.

Cat turning into an insatiable tramp was the most funniest thing ever. The scene with Bones bashing the ghoul with its own torn limb. There were simply too many laugh out loud moments that had me rolling around on my bed and spotting tears at some point. Some scenes were over the top and gross and totally graphic, but because this is PNR/UF, I guess it was okay.

"What exactly did Mencheres do?"
"Held you immobile with his power while I shagged you in the back of the plane."
"Get me some silver. I'm going to kill myself."
