Groundhog Day (1993)

Groundhog Day (1993)
Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray, a movie about a weatherman who finds himself reliving the Groundhog Day over and over again. It reminds me of Jake Gyllenhaal's Source Code. Phil (Bill Murray), a self-centered weather broadcaster was assigned to a job at Pennsylvania with producer, Rita and cameraman, Larry to cover the Groundhog Day report. Phil woke up in the Bed & Breakfast and when Mrs. Lancester engage him with a little chat, he rudely brushes her off. While on his way to the  festival ground, he came across an old man begging for money and Ned Ryerson, who Phil no longer remembers him. Ned is overly friendly and wants to sell him insurance, but Phil tried his best to dodge him. When he meets up with Rita and Larry, Phil gave a less than enthusiastic reporting and insist of leaving the town soon. Unfortunately, they were caught up in a blizzard and have to stay overnight at the town.

The next morning, Phil finds himself waking up to the Groundhog Day again. He left his room and run into Mrs. Lancester and Ned again. He felt disorientating and couldn't seems to find out what is happening to him. Over the next days, he became even more disorientated with the surreality of reliving the same day over and over again. He punches Ned and refuse to do the reporting, and drag Rita off to tell her about his predicament. Later on, Phil finds out that he can make use of the situation to do things that he will not need to be responsible. He drives his drunk buddy and run in to the trashcan and evade police pursue, drive  on the railroad and then ended up in the lockup. He robs bank and plot to seduce a woman at the bar by getting information from her the day before. And then he repeatedly trying to seduce Rita to spend the night with him, but to no avail.

We are unable to keep track of how long did Phil get stuck on the Groundhog Day, some articles said about 10 years time frame. Holy shit! No wonder he ended up wanted to kill himself and did several attempts to commit suicide. Now I did feel bad for him even though he is such an douche-bag.

Phil then decided to make a change to be a better person and gets to know the town people better. He gives money to the old man, brings him for meals, save a boy from dropping off the tree, a man from suffocating in a diner, amend a couple relationships, learn piano, ice sculpting and etc. In the end, Rita sees him a change man, and decided to spend time with him. After the night he spent with Rita, Phil finally woke up to the day after the Groundhog Day.
